Art is Dialogue

A reflection

Art is many things, for sure it isn’t just about aesthetics or technique; and for sure it has been a fundamental mean of social communication, a bridge between individuals.

I think we can imagine art as a large round table. Around this table, artists and the public sit together, not just to observe, but to engage in a conversation.

Every work of art we encounter, whether it be a painting, a sculpture, a performance, invites dialogue, asks questions, and provokes responses. It’s not uncommon to see oneself in a work of art, to find a piece of oneself that perhaps had been unexpressed.

The artist offers a vision, an interpretation of the world, while the audience completes this work with their own interpretations, experiences, and emotions. When I see myself reflected in an artwork, I realize I am not alone. In this sense, I feel art can be a medium of social understanding, When I exchange opinions about a piece that struck me, I’m discussing the artwork itself, but also sharing a part of myself, and at the same time, opening myself to see the world through the other person’s eyes. This exchange promotes empathy, mutual understanding, and gives a collective sense of identity and belonging.
