Art. Always.

Brentford has always been a place of convergence and creativity, thanks in part to its location along the River Thames. From its early days, the town has been a bustling point of trade and transport, influencing the types of crafts and art produced here. Historically, the town focused in trades like shipbuilding and pottery, likely dating back to Roman times. Practical arts were essential for daily life and the local economy.

As the Industrial Revolution took hold, Brentford adapted. The town became known for industries like soap making and brewing; utilitarian crafts that served the needs of a growing industrial society. These industries shaped the town’s character and influenced the practical mindset of its craftsmen and artists.

The 20th century marked a renaissance of traditional arts and crafts, fueled by the broader Arts and Crafts Movement that pushed back against mass production.

In Brentford, the spirit of art and craft is alive and evolving, continually influenced by our rich history and the dynamic, diverse community that calls this town home. As artists here, we are constantly inspired by our collective heritage and the personal stories of those around us, which we strive to give a voice to, in the nearby future.
